As I listen to the song “God Only Knows,” by For King and Country, I thought of abortion. As I heard the lyrics- “God only knows what you’ve been through
God only knows what they say about you
God only knows how it’s killing you
But there’s a kind of love that God only knows”
As the words of “God only knows” the sentiment came to mind of how God only knows what the children go through as they are preemptively killed.
God only knows what they (in this context: the world meaning some in the medical field and the pro-abortion people) say about the preborn babies.
The terms our world uses for preborn children are used to try to dehumanize preborn babies such as calling preborn babies, “fetus”, “embryo”, “monster”, “incompatible with life”, “rapist baby” and so forth. The words our society uses to dehumanize people made in the Lord’s Image is absolutely disheartening as to think of how our world believes that the preborn from fertilization are not worthy of fighting for or cherishing is beyond heartbreaking. It is also heartbreaking how our world with even recognizing intellectually how unborn babies are persons are still justifying the killing of the cherished persons in the womb. We are each people from fertilization to the end of life/are made in Imago Dei and we are to be cherished not preemptively killed.
As the words go “God only knows how it’s killing you” to me this expresses the world’s views/words toward the preborn children. These terms are the “how it’s killing you.” As our society uses dehumanizing language towards the preborn, they are apt to not see their value and then apt to kill children as we do not recognize their value. This occurs due to many Christians being silent and the world living in darkness. Women and men need to know that Jesus loves them SO much that He entrusted them with preborn children who may have been conceived at a time they did not expect. I want them to know that their children’s conceptions are His timing. Also, for the dear women who are contemplating abortion “due to health of the mother or health of the child situations” I encourage you to see this child as a gift no matter how long they live. I wanted to share if your doctor says you need to abort due to “the health of the mother” or the “selective reduction,” please know that medically speaking there is never a reason to preemptively kill your preborn child or children in order to “save the life of the mother or other children.” See this video by an OBGYN who worked as a high-risk OB for almost 10 years: https://youtu.be/kHNzoZ4oheU If your child was conceived through rape or incest, please know your children conceived are gifts to you from God.
When reflecting on the lyrics (from this For King and Country song) that says, “There’s a kind of love that God only knows,” I thought of how if our world only loved the preborn babies as Jesus does, our world would not kill them. We must desire to see the kind of love to give compassion to those who have had an abortion/abortions as these women and men need to know that Jesus wants to see them walk in freedom through the free gift of Jesus Christ on the cross of seeing the forgiveness of God/Jesus to forgive the heartbreaking act of abortion to see them set free and healed.
