A New Way to View Parenthood

In our society we say that parenthood starts the moment the child is born, and we would say that mothers and fathers become parents the moment their child is born; but what if I told you that was wrong. What is if this whole time you and I were wrong. When one googles the definition of parenthood it states, “the state of being a parent and the responsibilities involved:”

It was many years ago that I realized that a mother and father become parents the moment their child is made at fertilization, whether the baby be made through a petri dish or not, but along with this comes the fact that the first stage of parenthood does not begin when the child is born but unborn. It is not only about the concept that a mother becomes a mother and a father a father but that reality that parenthood is not something you have to look forward to but rather something you are already doing. When you have a child in utero or in a petri dish you are supposed to be this child’s advocate and look at this child as you would when they are born. Yes, there is value in reading the “parenting books” and learning about the “how to’s” of parenthood but what if we started parenting our child in utero. Parenthood is meant to protect children from all harm. It is meant to nurture and care for and disciple the child. What if parents when told by many doctors that they should abort instead of parents caving to the lies such as “life of the mother” or “prenatal diagnosis” what if parents were taught to have a parental mentality for their child inside as they would outside. Just as a parent would not allow the medical field to take their child’s life outside the womb as they would fight for their babies’ life; they would not then allow the medical to pressure them into believing the lies to take the lives of their children inside the womb. Often when a woman is pregnant, she is preparing for the first stage of parenthood once her child is born but I believe that the first stage of parent is parenting the child before birth.
