Jesus Wept-We Can Too.

In the Christian community people are told that if someone dies, that God has a plan and that the person is in Heaven, and that it was God’s will. This may all be very well true, although sometimes it is not, but these truthful statements are often told with a “get over it” spirit. I thank the Lord my family is not this way.

Those who do have this mindset and heart posture think that if we love God, people who grieve should not continue to grieve over the death of someone. Jesus was a man of sorrows, and although I do not know what this is in reference to, clearly it shows we are meant to grieve, and this is natural and okay to do. If we are meant to be like Jesus, then grieving is acceptable. The Christian community acts as if grieving is weakness and as if being a “strong” Christian means “we get over it because God has it.” Think about this, when Lazarus died, we know in John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” Yes, He wept. Jesus knew Lazarus would be risen from the dead, but He acted in a normal way as He wept that someone died. He trusted His Father, knowing God has a perfect plan, and He knew that Lazarus was in Heaven, He knew all the truths many Christians tell people when someone dies, yet He wept. We should weep with people too. I think the less people grieve with others the farther they are from God’s heart, not closer.
